“please turn yourself in”
Yesterday afternoon I was dispatched to a south side church on 59th Street.
I was told that a reporter and I would meet a woman there who wanted to tell her son to turn himself in for his possible involvement in the death of Kiyanna Salter, a Chicago teen who was shot to death on a CTA bus on Sunday. The woman was afraid if she called the police harm would come to her son.
The mother, Patricia Wilson, had seen a security video of the possible shooter and she said that she knew that the person of interest was her son.
When I arrived at the church, Wilson, her sister Jessie Tucker and her nephew Jimmie Tucker were seated just outside the sanctuary.
After a joint interview with the Tribune and WGN-TV, Wilson decided to call the police and tell them her story.
We waited with Mrs. Wilson until the police arrived and then we were sent on our way.
Here’s hoping that everything turns out ok for the Wilson family and that the family of Kiyanna Salter finds some peace after this tragedy.
Update- On Wednesday afternoon, Patricia Wilson’s son surrounded to police at the church where I photographed the family on Tuesday.
